Guide to NOT Killing your Teammates

Post by Biolock » 19 Jul 2015, 08:56

Alright, so if you're reading this post, you're probably not the audience I'm trying to reach, because you've already committed some time to not being a total jackass on Colonial Marines. None the less, I'm writing the post. Here on CM you've probably come to realize that the medical teams are somewhat less than stellar during chaotic times, well this lesson is 100% Crossman approved, so please take some notes.

- Cryobags should be used as a last resort, frankly they almost aren't worth carrying because of the genetic damage they do.... I don't even know why they exist... don't use one unless you've got no other chemicals or supplies to treat whatever they have.

- A defibrillator should always be carried, remove a players armor and jumpsuit before attempting to revive them or else the chances of them successfully being revived drop dramatically.

- If you ever waste any space on tricordrazine injectors, you're what's wrong with Colonial Marines. There is ZERO reason as a combat medic to carry a single auto injector of the stuff because the hyposprays carry them, just bring a second hypospray.

- Always carry quickclot, it is, without a doubt, the most important chemical you'll ever carry because internal bleeding can kill a marine as quickly as a missing hand (severity may vary), and internal bleeding is common.

- Carry at least one dexaline plus, if anything it acts as a lifeline for the marine you're operating on and provides you with more time. Almost all fatalities in SS13 ultimatly result from oxy-loss which occurs when a player enters "hard-crit" the critical level in which the player can no longer move or speak (unconscious).

- Pulling an object out of someone... don't do it unless you have both quickclot and some sort of bandage on hand or you could cause the player to bleed out very rapidly from either internal bleeding or external wounds.

- Always always always carry a syringe and at least a single bottle of spaceacillin. You can be infected for around 40 minutes so long as you are administering a constant amounts of spaceacillin; be wary however, it's one of the easier chemicals to overdose on (around 20 units can OD someone).

Be ready for anything, and learn your stats: know that it takes at least 40 brute damage to the chest to break it; know that if the arm has 29 damage, it's fractured and if it has 31 damage it's broken. There's a difference between fighting with a fractured hand and a broken hand. With a fractured hand you will only drop the items you try to hold if you get jostled, with a broken hand you can't hold anything. Ultimately, you need to play medic more and more until the knowledge becomes second nature. I never thought I'd be any good at medical (I started out as an engineer), but when I realized how desperately the community needed solid medics, I committed to it.

If other people provide good, useful advice, I'll incorporate it into the tips and tricks.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

As a caveat, if someone is badly fucked up and useless in combat due to missing limbs/broken bones, etc, it can be better to let them die; copypastaing him is much more efficient than having Medbay spend 10-15+ minutes on his ass via multiple surgeries; doubly so if they have upgraded cloners.
